Recently, we received the CD that the Grammy Band recorded at Capitol Studios last year. My son, Matt, played in the 2010 Grammy Band. I’ve been listening to it last night and this morning. It’s hard to believe that these fine musicians and singers are high school students. They are truly the best of the best around, and this recording shows their level of musicianship. Listening to it brings back the wonderful memories of the live performances at Grammy week. It was thrilling to be in L.A. at the different venues the band performed in, and meeting legends like Kenny Burrell and Hubert Laws. The Grammy band also played with James Moody before he passed away. Another highlight for Matt was playing live at the Grammys with the Dave Mathews Band. It was truly a magical week, and it’s fun to have this well produced memento. Matt went on to earn a scholarship at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, and loves every moment of his experience in NYC. Several of his friends from the Grammy Band are also there on scholarship. These are the young lions to watch for in the coming years.
Wow, what a storm here in KC! I’m glad that P.K. and I got out last night to have a glass of wine with friends at Il Centro, because it’s going to be hard to get out for a couple of days! I stayed home today and worked, read some of M. Scott Peck’s Further Along the Road Less Traveled (excellent book!), and listened to music. I’ve been taking notes on the tracks we’ve laid down for the album so I can make a few fixes when we go in the studio next Tuesday. Can’t wait to see how this project goes together. OK, I’ve got to take the dog out. It’s a blowing, crazy blizzard out there and it’s felt nice to watch it from inside my little treehouse today! Stay safe, everyone!
